News Release: Acrow Helping World Trade Center Cleanup

(Carlstadt, NJ) – January 31, 2002 - Acrow Corporation, an international bridge engineering and supply company based in Carlstadt, NJ, has been hired by Bovis Lend Lease LMB, Inc., lead general contractor of the World Trade Center cleanup, to install a Acrow's Project Engineer Matt Hummel meets with Mayor Rudi Giuliani at Ground Zero bridge construction site 460-foot-long by 30-foot-wide bridge with a worker access sidewalk and five support piers. The temporary bridge will be installed over the next month to assist the final stages of the WTC recovery and cleanup.

Bill Killeen, President of Acrow Corporation, explained that the two-lane bridge will be an Acrow® 700XS® Panel Bridge, which is both quick and easy to erect with minimal labor. According to Killeen, “Acrow Panel Bridges are perfect for this type of job. They are extremely versatile and very fast to build, which will greatly assist the short construction schedule.” Acrow was able to meet the quick delivery based on its domestic fabrication facility in Milton, PA coupled with their inventory.

Currently, trucks are traveling up and down muddy roads that are supported by packed debris.

“Our modular bridges will enable trucks and heavy machinery to get down into the seven-story pit safely where they will assist in clearing the Ground Zero site and help with the rebuilding effort,” said Killeen.

Acrow Corporation’s close proximity to the WTC is ideal because engineers can be on the site within minutes from their NJ office.Acrow's Technician Rafal Jarski meets with Mayor Rudi Giuliani at Ground Zero bridge construction site

“Following the tragic events of 9/11, Acrow volunteered two workers that same week to assist the NYPD and FDNY in moving supplies from the Hudson River shore front at the World Financial Center to sites within Manhattan. Like so many other people, we at Acrow have been wanting to further assist in helping the recovery effort. Knowing our Acrow Bridge will be significantly supporting the recovery efforts of Bovis and the City of New York is especially rewarding for the Acrow team here in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Canada,” added Killeen.

Acrow Corporation is an international bridge engineering and supply company servicing the transportation and construction industry for over 50 years with a full line of steel bridge products for vehicle and pedestrian applications.
