Release:
Acrow Responds to Metro NY/NJ Rail Bridge Emergency with Superprop®
System.
NEWS RELEASE
August 01, 2001
For the second time within a 30 day period Acrow Corporation was
asked to respond to a bridge emergency requirement in the metro NY/NJ
area. This particular case was a through girder railroad bridge,
which apparently weakened over years of usage, and required immediate
reinforcement following an inspection.
The consulting engineering firm managing the large project described
the problem on the phone to an Acrow engineer. Acrow’s engineers were
then able to design a shoring solution, overnight, using the Acrow
Superprop system. Acrow Superprop equipment was delivered to the job
site within 12 hours and the entire shoring system was erected within
a day. The rail bridge required 23 Superprops located strategically
in accordance with the engineering design. The design loading is the
heaviest railroad loading in the USA and it is called AREMA Cooper
E-80.
One Acrow Superprop has the capability to support 250 tons unbraced
to heights of 40 feet. The Acrow Superprop is one of the most versatile,
compact (20 inch diameter) and easy to install shoring systems in
the construction industry. It is completely modular, and it pins and
bolts together. The head of the Superprop extends 1.4 feet using standard
hydraulic jacks. After the Superprop has been extended, simply turn
the collar nut until it seats and remove the hydraulic jacks.
Acrow Superprop and Bridge products are rented or sold depending on
the customer’s need.
