Acrow® Temporary Bridge Reopens Interstate Route 80 In Denville, NJ
NEWS RELEASE - June 26, 2001 - Carlstadt, NJ:

On Friday June 22nd a severe early morning truck accident on Interstate Route 80 in the Denville, New Jersey area resulted inDannville, NJ complete closure of the four lane westbound artery after the NJDOT determined an existing concrete bridge was seriously weakened. The accident, involving two trucks and a tanker containing 7000 gallons of fuel, ignited a fire so intense that it caused structural damage to the concrete bridge. Interstate Route 80, originating across from New York City, carries approximately 130,000 vehicles per day.

Bill Killeen, President of Acrow Corporation, received an emergency call from the NJDOT requesting to meet at the accident scene that afternoon. At the accident scene he was able to assess the requirements for a temporary bridge and commit to supplying steel components for a 90 foot long by 30 foot wide crossing over the damaged structure.

Early Saturday morning Acrow’s engineers designed the temporary bridge while operations staff organized the inventory of steel components and loaded trucks for delivery. By 1pm Saturday afternoon, 17 hours after being given the go-ahead by the NJDOT, the Acrow® Danville, NJ 700XS Panel Bridge was completely delivered to the job site ready for assembly.

Working closely with the NJDOT and contractors on a 24 hour cycle over the weekend, the Acrow bridge was built and is scheduled to open Wednesday June 27th for regular motorist traffic. Bill Killeen made the following comment, “The Acrow bridge will provide two lanes of traffic on Interstate 80 westbound as permanent reconstruction of the damaged bridge is completed during the summer months”. He further added, “ It was especially rewarding for the Acrow team to assist the NJDOT and the metro area motorists after this most serious and paralyzing road closure”.

Acrow Corporation is a international bridge engineering and supply company servicing the transportation and construction industry for over 50 years with a full line of steel bridge products for vehicle and pedestrian applications.
